Los Angeles Southwest College, Los Angeles, CA

Location

Los Angeles Southwest College in Los Angeles, California is a two-year college that awards Associate’s Degrees in more than 30 fields and occupational certificates in more than 45 disciplines. The campus is also the site of Middle College High School of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Students can take college courses and obtain their Associate of Arts Degree while meeting requirements for a high school diploma. More than half of LASC’s students are first-generation college students. Our students come from a wide service area, including Los Angeles as well as portions of Gardena, Hawthorne and Inglewood. Public transportation, and corresponding bus shelters, is a critical element for students.

Project

Tolar Manufacturing adapted 16-foot shelters from its Signature Custom line to form a transit station that is located in front of Los Angeles Southwest College. Working closely with the school’s project architect the Tolar team created a solution that serves the transportation needs of the school’s growing enrollment, while meeting site restrictions and reflecting the school’s powerfully branded identity. Illuminating the bus stops with environmentally-responsible solar powered lighting was another critical element of the project.

Other environmentally-friendly features include a custom powder coat finish that emits minimal VOC’s into the local environment, seating that features HDPE slats around an architectural aluminum frame.

A Word from our Founder

“We have found in our 27 years of experience that working closely with the contractor and the client reaps the best results,” stated Gary Tolar. “Access Pacific out of Pasadena and the LA Southwest College team had a clear vision to provide important amenities for their students and staff and we were honored to carry out the vision.
